43. Sea snakes

In general, snakes can be tricky to photograph. They breathe air on the surface and dive down to the reef for longer periods of time to search for food. That is when we get our best chance for a picture. Although they aren’t the fastest animals in the sea, the way they undulate between corals and the shape of their bodies make them quite difficult to frame. Even though there are places where encounters with snakes are relatively frequent (Philippines, Indonesia), these opportunities don’t arise every day, and so I use every chance I get to photograph snakes underwater.
